Touching Hearts & Souls – Palliative Care Awareness Campaign by Hospis Malaysia

   Category: Uncategorized | 1 Comment

We all have big hearts, and what better way to show some love than to help those in need, right? Well, Hospis Malaysia recently hosted the Palliative Care Awareness Campaign at Publika, Kuala Lumpur on the 25th – 29th April 2014! This charitable organization offers professional Palliative Care to patients who are suffering from life-limiting illness, who live within Klang Valley.

So Churpers, got any clue of what palliative care is?

Well, for those who aren’t sure, palliative care is basically a pain and other symptom management to relief patients suffering from a life-limiting illness. It neither hastens death, nor postpones it. The goal is not to cure, but to provide comfort and maintain the highest possible quality of life for as long as life remains.

During the campaign, Hospis Malaysia proudly introduced their new symbol to raise awareness for palliative care.

There was also a photography exhibition featuring some of the palliative care recipients’ journey. Celebrity messages from names such as Sheila Majid, Elaine Daly, Hans Isaac and Melinda Looi were also featured during photography exhibition.

Here’s one of their featured recipients! Strong-will and optimist Nazmi, who is not only a Malaysian Youth Paralympics Games gold medallist, but also is a genius at chess, who has been living a brighter life thanks to palliative care!

Nazmi is very thankful to have a loving and dedicated mother, Midah, who has been his source of positive energy and strength, and a kind father, Nizam, who plays an equally important role in his life. The family is thankful for the guidance that has been provided by the Hospis Malaysia nurses, not only for being there to answer any questions but also to comfort the family during hard times.

Everyone there was also given the chance to write their thoughts on what they would want to achieve before passing on the “Before I Die…” wall.  It was interesting to read some of the creative thoughts written by them!

On a whole, it was an eye-opening educational campaign, packed with fun and love! So let’s show some support to Hospis Malaysia in raising awareness on Palliative care, because everyone deserve a brighter tomorrow! =)
